According to him, the leader of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) plays a crucial role in cabinet choices and is unable to separate himself from the nation's hardships.

The Movement for Change's founder and leader, Mr. Kyerematen, drew a comparison between President Akufo-Addo, who has provided Dr. Bawumia with comparable possibilities, and the late former President J.E. Atta-Mills, who permitted then Vice President John Dramani Mahama to oversee processes.

On February 7, 2024, Mr. Kyerematen made the following observation in an interview with Bernard Avle on The Point of View on Citi TV: "There's no doubt about that. How is it even conceivable to deny that you have been a minister and pretend that you are not part of a system? However, since you are discussing becoming a minister, that is untrue—ministers do not lead governments. It has to do with the ultimate level of executive authority. In your capacity as a minister, you give guidance.

Until he resigned in September 2023 to join the New Patriotic Party, he acknowledged that he had contributed to the mishandling of the economy while serving as Trade Minister.

In spite of his role in the economic catastrophe, the former Minister of Trade and Industry emphasized the value of his ability to effect change.

Kyerematen, the founder and head of the Movement for Change, clarified that governments are not only managed by ministers but also by an executive authority at the highest level, thus Bawumia cannot completely escape responsibility.
