Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has come under fire from National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama for attempting to distance himself from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government's policies.

He stated that as the NPP flagbearer is a member of the cabinet, he plays a crucial role in all of the choices made by the administration of Akufo-Addo.
"No government official, even Dr. Bawumia, can avoid accountability for the economic difficulties, he claims.
You are aware of the state of the economy. All of the people who were involved in the mess are now attempting to flee as though they were not. People started complaining that others weren't listening to them, that they weren't in control, and other such things.

“All of them ‘de inside’, Jack Toronto and all his brothers, all of them are part of the mess we are going through. Since they were all seated in the same cabinet, none of them can avoid accountability. Speaking at a town hall meeting in Tamale on Thursday, February 8, the NDC flagbearer stated that whenever they planned to borrow from the Eurobond market, it was approved in the cabinet.
"You borrowed $30.5 billion in six years and did nothing with it, so you can't come here and tell us you weren't part of it today," he continued. All of them are involved in the situation we find ourselves in, and Ghanaians will send them packing in retaliation for the suffering and debt they have caused us. We have the men and women who will bring this nation's economy and finances back to sound conditions. They miss going home and learning their lessons. The NDC is returning and winning this election.
His remarks coincide with the assertion made by the leader of the Economic Management Team (EMT) that the EMT lacks decision-making authority, despite the fact that he did not specifically name Dr. Bawumia.
Only the cabinet receives advice, according to Dr. Bawumia. He had been held accountable for Ghana's economic woes as head of the EMT.
