We always think Governments must solve our problems- Mensa Otabil

Pastor Mensa Otabil, General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), has called attention to the widespread practice in Ghana of depending exclusively on the government to solve problems. Pastor Otabil urged a mental shift in the populace and urged them to support and take part in community development initiatives.

On December 24, 2023, during this year's Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh night, Pastor Otabil spoke to his congregation and voiced his concerns about the low level of private participation in social interventions. He underlined that rather than depending exclusively on government initiatives, people and organizations need to contribute to the solution of community problems.

One of the issues facing Ghanaians, or the country, is that we are prone to believing that the government should handle our issues. Because we believe that the government is the only entity capable of resolving challenges in the community, we lack private enterprises and private initiative to resolve our problems, according to Pastor Otabil.

Pastor Otabil emphasized the significance of holding governments responsible for their actions while supporting citizen-driven solutions. He said, "Governments must solve problems, and when they fail, we must hold them accountable."

Pastor Otabil encouraged his congregants to donate to Central Aid, the church's community service initiative, in order to spur real change.

He emphasized the project's benefits to both Ghanaians and non-Ghanaians, pointing out that it had improved lives and made education more accessible.
