In a press statement of Ghana armed forces in Ho. The speaker
FCPO. Solomon Badiako, the PRO.
In his speech, He said the primary factor they are looking for is health because, as a veteran, you depend on a pension, a pension is a fraction of a basic salary while in uniform, and you also have age. So you realize that after aging, most of your problems become health-wise.
We will not talk about pensions or other stuff because it is a statutory order, and
the salary is Pre-determined. It can't be changed because of anybody, and we can't say the salary is sufficient for them.
The major problem at hand now is medicals. That's why, in the
last two years, we have been using the funds we can generate from the sales of
"pulpi" for the building hospital at Amasaman. If you think that
Amasaman is far from Ho, it will be a great pleasure when we finish what we started at Amasaman.
VAA can not build hospitals; that is a fact, but we support them in our own small ways. But there is hope that we can do it in
any other area, too, and the strength of veterans is so important.
Looking at the number of veterans in Volta compared to
Greater Accra, Volta is lower than that of Accra.
Last, I said on SWISS FM that we have a number that
can not be disclosed because the numbers are too low, so we are building a
hospital for VAA. The number doesn't call for it.
Insurance was there for the Veterans that VAA was renewing
for them before, but now they are being encouraged to do it themselves because
of how things are going.
VAA stopped the renewal because VAA can not pay the bill for the Veterans due to how expensive the bill is.
A working Soldier is not satisfied; how can a veteran be satisfied be happy. Our
appeal is for the government to look at veterans' health because that will make them comfortable.
