If a political party proposed an offer today, I might consider a few factors- Adjetey Anang.
Adjetey Anang, an actor, has stated that if a political party approached him recently about endorsing one of its presidential candidates, he would think again despite disclosing in his book that he earlier declined the offer.
He explained to Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM's Showbiz A-Z that he declined the offer because the political climate at the time it was made was too polarized for him to become engaged.
He claimed that the system has altered somewhat and that he would have to reconsider any approach from a party now.
"[If they arrived today], we might take a few things into account. It was a different era back then. I believe that as a people, we have made great strides. Even though it's still early, we're still not like places like the US, so we're still extremely sensitive about the notion that individuals can come out bravely and choose a political party, he said. The renowned actor continued, "Today, given a few things, we'll evaluate [a political party's offer].
Adjetey Anang writes in his book, "Adjetey Anang: A Story of Faith, Imperfection and Resilience," that he had to turn down the lucrative offer even though he was "broke" at the time.
Anang stated in the book, "...on another occasion, I was approached by a political party in which I had many friends, to endorse the campaign of their flagbearer. I was broke, the financial reward was alluring, and all I needed to do was a few minutes of endorsement and my troubles would be over!"
He said in the interview that a ruling party had approached him with the offer, though he would not say what year it occurred.
He said that among other things, they were prepared to provide him a car and $50,000.
