Dr. Bawumia asserted that the national identification card is more advantageous than 1,000 interchanges at the Accra Business School.

Since we developed a national identification system, 16 million Ghanaians now have unique identities, which is a significant improvement. Additionally, many individuals occasionally fail to recognize the significance of the Ghana card.

He stated at the Accra Business School, "But if you handed me 1,000 interchanges and a Ghana Card, I would prefer it because it is more impactful.

This remark caused outrage among some members of the public and the NDC, the opposition party.

The Vice President has responded to his critics after more than two weeks. While addressing attendees at the Friday Civil Service Awards ceremony, he attempted to defend the remark.

"You can only imagine the uproar produced as people questioned whether the man was insane.

He questioned.

1st time ever in the history of the nation, according to Dr. Bawumia, we have a biometric identification system that allows us to uniquely identify every person, whether they are living or dead.

He thinks this will eliminate phantom identities from government payrolls and maybe save Ghana millions of cedis.

"Soon after, the issue of phantom names on our public sector payroll will be resolved... We discovered 14,000 ghost workers at the National Service Scheme, saving 114 million Ghana cedis annually from just one institution because we search for distinctive identities. Recently, SSNIT reported discovering 27,000 fake pensioners who were receiving 327 million cedis annually.

According to the Vice President, the Ghana card number has also evolved into the TIN for Ghanaians. It would aid in integrating databases, increase tax collection, and ultimately generate more income for the nation.

He claims that these savings, along with the many other advantages Ghana stands to gain, motivated him to choose a Ghana Card over a network of 1,000 interchanges because it would save Ghana millions of cedis while reducing corruption.
