When Ghanaians and Nigerians are not arguing about Jollof rice, they are arguing over whose music is better or criticizing each other's governments and economic success on social media.
Two mothers, one from Nigeria and the other from Ghana, are trying to settle their differences through a rap war due to their internet-famous children. The feud began before the birth of the Gen Z kids, who now use the internet the most, and has taken a new turn.
CJ Biggerman, a rapper from Ghana, honored his mother, Big Ivy, on Mother's Day by including her in a song.
Big Ivy included several contentious bars in the song that sparked discussion on social media.
She became an overnight online phenomenon because of this song. The song's music video made its way onto Nigerian social media, inspiring the nation's internet users to challenge their mothers to join the game and rap as Big Ivy did.
Responding to the call, Mummy Dolarz, the mother of internet comic OluwaDolarz, criticized Big Ivy directly in her music video and invited Big Ivy to study under her.
Big Ivy responded to Mummy Dolarz in yet another contentious song, "Mama Naira," as if she were anticipating a Nigerian mother's reaction to her rap. Because she (Big Ivy) was expecting a response from Nigerian veteran rappers MI Abaga, Phyno, Vector, or Olamide, not her, she went hard, really hard, on the song and demanded Mummy Dolarz shut her "Basket Mouth" (Mummy Dolarz).
These two mothers have sparked heated debates on social media between Nigerians and Ghanaians about whether the two mothers, Big Ivy or Mummy Dolarz, recorded the better rap song.
We are still unsure if this will develop into another Ghana-Naija feud or if it will remain a social media romp while we wait for Mummy Dolarz to respond to "Mama Naira" (fun).
