Shatta Wale, a reggae/dancehall performer, is happy that
his false publication case is now over.
This came after he pleaded guilty to publishing false
information that caused panic and was found guilty and fined $2,000 for it.
Shatta Wale uploaded an image of him with his attorney on
Twitter with the caption "free at last."
The singer of "My Level" praised his supporters
for supporting him during the legal process, as well as his attorney, Jerry
Avenogbor.
"FREE AT LAST," he wrote. A key component of
happiness in life is feeling and expressing appreciation. I'd like to take this
chance to express my gratitude to my lawyer, Jerry, the judge, the Shatta
Movement, and the entire country for their assistance during these challenging
times. #OnGod."
This comes after he admitted on Wednesday, June 29, that
he had published false news.
The musician was given a non-custodial term and was fined
2,000 by the Court, which was presided over by Emmanuel Essandoh.
Shatta Wale faces a three-month jail sentence if he
doesn't pay the fine.
Shatta Wale made up a narrative in 2021 that he had been
attacked and shot by unidentified people, but it proved to be a hoax.
He and a few other people were accused of spreading false
information. At first, they refuted the accusation.
Jerry Avenogbor, the singer's attorney, said he was
unsure of the reason behind Shatta Wale's decision to modify his plea in an
interview with Doreen Avio on Hitz FM.
They later begged the Court for remission, according to
Mr Avenogbor, mainly because the artist was a first-time perpetrator who had
displayed regret.
Thank God finally it over. I’m sure he won’t do that again.
