Davido caves in to pressure and removes the controversial "Jaye lo" music video.
David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, is a Nigerian Afrobeat musician who received criticism from Islamists over a controversial music video that he erased.
Following the release of the latter's new album, "Jaye Lo," WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that the head of the Davido Music Worldwide label and his signee, Olamilekan Taiwo, alias Logos Olori, generated a commotion online.
Davido drew a lot of criticism after posting a 45-second snippet of the new video on Instagram on Friday.
The video has been deemed insulting by many Muslim followers, who are now pressing for a retraction and an apology.
In the contentious image, some guys were depicted as praying mallams who were instead dancing in front of a mosque. Some Muslim adherents have since found this dancing move to be objectionable.
Ahmad Ganga, a personal assistant in the Federal House of Representatives, explained why the video is considered disrespectful by saying that Davido and his signee in the scenario represented Muslims as idiots, contending that the mosque is a place of prayer, not a dancing club.
However, Monday's checks by WITHIN NIGERIA on Davido's social media handles revealed that the video had been removed.
The musician has yet to apologize to Muslims, though, as of the time this news was filed.
Former President Muhammadu Buhari's aide Bashir Ahmad applauded the artist for taking down the video after learning of the retractions.
It's fantastic to learn that Davido removed that cruel and insulting video, he tweeted. We sincerely request that the same severe error never be made again from him or anyone else, and we are hopeful that the entire moment will be removed from the actual footage before it is released to the market.
"Nigeria is a stunning nation. When we celebrate the wonder of coexisting in harmony and unity while valuing our diversity, it is always amazing.
